The rim of the Musandam Peninsular is over 600 kilometers of broken coastline with magnificent bays and tiny fishing villages.

Thousand of years ago, through a series of cataclysmic geothermal events, cliffs of the Musandam Peninsular, now called the Hajar Mountain, separated from the Zagros Mountains, the parent mountains of Iran.
The combination of dense igneous and metamorphic rock covered with layers of sedimentary rock give the cliffs the illusion of having been "melted" or as if a giant cave had been turned inside and the heat of the sun had caused the mountains to melt.

Aside from the geological wonders of the area, Musandam is home for numerous varieties of fish, seabirds, turtles and dolphins. Flocks of cormorants follow unspoken command to swim in unison, dive in unison and take flight in unison. Flying needle fish pop out of the water like slim knives, airborne for amazing distances as they escape from predators or search for prey themselves. Ospreys and sooty falcons drift and swift with the air current.

It's as if mountains had been sunk into a great sea with only the peaks left baring themselves in a catastrophic cracking of the earth. Now the sea eats away at the bases, undercutting them until they calve from the cliffs like giant ice berg.
